The Kodak Ltd Archive consists of documents, photographs and other items relating to the history of Kodak Ltd dating from its formation in 1885. It is now in the care of the British Library in London. For more information and how to search the online catalogue see this Post.

The Kodak Ltd Archive at the British Library

The Kodak Ltd Archive consists of documents, photographs and other items relating to the history of Kodak Ltd dating from its formation in 1885. It is now in the care of the British Library and is located in London at its St Pancras headquarters. The Archive catalogue has been incorporated into the British Library online Catalogue and is available to everyone.

You can search online and can read a description of the article, but can only view it at the British Library.

If you wish to search for an item of interest, type http://searcharchives.bl.uk into your browser. In the search box in the BL page displayed, type the word kodak followed by words that describe the item.

To view the items, you need to obtain a Readers Pass, which is issued at the British Library in St Pancras. Check the BL home page to see requirements for obtaining a Readers Pass. You can order the items in advance online (preferable) or when you arrive at the British Library. The item ordered will be delivered to your desk in the reading room.

Calendar of Events

1985   Kodak Ltd Archive formed incorporating those items in the Kodak Museum that did not go to Bradford and were concerned with the history of the Company rather than the history of photography generally.
2006 18 July Meeting between Jane Guinn (Kodak Ltd Managing Director), Sam Weller (former Director of Research), Derek Birch (now President of The Royal Photographic Society) and Chris Roberts (Archivist and meeting convener) at which it was decided to seek a custodian for the Archive in the London area.
2006 5 December Display of material at Harrow for John Falconer of the British Library arranged by Derek Birch and Chris Roberts.
2009 2 March Signing of contract between Kodak Ltd and the British Library by Jan Wildman (now HR Director, EAMER at Kodak Alaris). Contract arranged by Sam Weller.
2009 November Opening of a BL Exhibition using material from the Archive.
2011 9 June Last transport of Archive material from Harrow to the BL.
2011 March Michael Pritchard (now Director General of the Royal Photographic Society) starts work at the BL arranging and ordering Kodak Archive items and cataloguing those not already catalogued.
2012 24 May Official opening at De Montfort University of the Kodak collection of books and journals donated from the Archive to the University.
2013 August Archive catalogue available via the British Library on line search system.
